The Gulfport Merchants’ Chamber’s Arts Steering Committee invites you to serve as a Mentor to a Rise & Shine artist. The Rise & Shine grants encourage and spotlight emerging artists by providing cash rewards, marketing services, and opportunities to showcase their art. An important element of the Rise & Shine program is pairing grantees with a professional mentor who will help them develop business acumen along with their artistic skills.

Who are good Rise & Shine mentors?
Recognized for their artistic expressions through shows, sales, and productions.
Understand and communicate the “business of art” concepts and practices
Enjoy supporting and encouraging others in their creative endeavors.
Ability to guide artists in setting goals, timelines, and completing grant-related deliverables
Reliable and able to follow through on commitments with mentees throughout the grant period

If selected to Mentor one of the Rise & Shine grantees, your commitment involves scheduling at least quarterly meetings for updates, accountability and coaching and meeting with the Lead Mentor for resources and map out objectives and milestones.

Work with our Board and other Arts Committee members on recurring annual events, monthly exhibits, and special art promotions in Gulfport.

We work with residents willing to adopt and care for a drain(s). We have maps to help with selecting a drain(s) convenient to residents. Adoption basically entails keeping an eye on the drain and clearing leaves/debris on an as-needed basis, then making a call to public works (727) 893-1089 for removal of the leaves/debris that were cleared. This will help reduce or eliminate both street flooding and contribute to maintaining the water quality of our bay and beyond.

Adopting is easy. First sign up for Gulfport Connects, then respond to the Adopt-A-Drain need (this need). To chose a drain to adopt, simply chose one from the Adopt-A-Drain Map. We will contact you and ask which drain number you would like. We will mark the map with a heart indicating your drain is adopted! 

We need people to put Gulfport's trees into software that will create an inventory of what types of trees we have, where they are and what condition they are in. We will train you.

Write articles about trees and tree care for newspapers and social media

The Gulfport Senior Center Foundation is in need of volunteers at Foundation special events. Tasks include, but are not limited to: Set Up & Breakdown, Greeters, Box Office, Food & Beverage Service, Ushers, etc. Volunteers will be assigned jobs based on interest and ability. 

Responsibilities include: shelving books, reading shelves, dusting, cleaning tables
