Terms and Conditions for Gulfport Connected Volunteer Platform

1. Purpose

The Gulfport Connected Volunteer Platform (“the Platform”) is an official website operated by the City of Gulfport, Florida (“the City”) to connect volunteers with opportunities both:

  1. City-Sponsored Opportunities – managed directly by the City, which will vet volunteers and may require background checks in accordance with City policy.

  2. Non-City Volunteer Opportunities – managed by independent community organizations, nonprofits, or groups not affiliated with the City. These groups may have different vetting procedures, policies, and requirements.

2. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, along with all applicable laws and regulations. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.

3. City-Sponsored Volunteer Opportunities

  • The City will review all City-sponsored volunteer positions and may require background checks, reference checks, or additional screening before approval.

  • The City reserves the right to decline any volunteer application for any lawful reason.

  • Volunteers must comply with the City’s Code of Conduct and all applicable policies, including safety, confidentiality, and harassment prevention policies.

4. Non-City Volunteer Opportunities

  • Non-City volunteer listings are provided as a service to the community and are not operated, managed, or overseen by the City.

  • These organizations may have different screening, background check, and safety practices. The City does not verify the completeness, adequacy, or accuracy of such practices.

  • You are responsible for reviewing and understanding the terms, conditions, and policies of the independent organization before participating.

  • The City is not liable for the actions, omissions, or policies of non-City organizations or their volunteers.

5. Background Checks

  • For City-sponsored opportunities, the City may conduct background checks as a condition of participation.

  • Non-City organizations are solely responsible for determining whether to conduct background checks on their volunteers.

  • By applying for a volunteer opportunity, you consent to any required background checks as outlined in the opportunity description.

6. User Conduct

When using the Platform, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information in your volunteer application.

  • Refrain from posting or submitting unlawful, defamatory, discriminatory, or obscene content.

  • Respect the privacy and confidentiality of any personal information you may access during volunteer activities.

7. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

  • The City provides the Platform “as is” and makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding non-City opportunities.

  • The City is not responsible for any injury, loss, or damage arising out of your participation in non-City volunteer opportunities.

  • You assume full responsibility for ensuring your safety and compliance with the applicable policies of the hosting organization.

8. Changes to Terms

The City reserves the right to update or modify these Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice. Updates will be posted on the Platform with a new “Effective Date.”
